MGBS - a strong team

Why not combine the best features from different products? Take a CTP transponder-coded safety switch, mount it on a sturdy sub plate, combine everything with an MGB handle module, and what you get is a compact safety door protection device: the new MGBS. This is the ideal solution wherever a slimline switch housing is advantageous, such as on safety fence corner posts. Concealed mounting holes in the handle module and locking module provide excellent protection against tampering. A lockout mechanism is included in the handle module. This prevents the installation from starting, e.g. during maintenance and cleaning work. A simple plug connection reduces wiring work. The system is optionally available with an emergency stop device and with controls and indicators. The resulting MGBS is a slimline safety door protection device with the properties of an MGB. Thanks to the transponder technology, the system achieves category 4/PL e according to EN ISO 13849-1, without additional fault exclusion. It complies with all the requirements of EN ISO 14119. With its high degrees of protection IP65, IP67 and IP69K and a locking force of 3,900 N, the MGBS is an all-rounder for demanding environments.

Versatile use

The MGBS-P-L… reliably secures safety doors and flaps on machines and systems. Thanks to the integrated guard locking and guard lock monitoring it can be used both for process protection and the protection of personnel. Its compact design permits space-saving mounting on the guard. With a guard locking force of 3,900 N the MGBS effectively prevents the opening of safety doors. The very robust plastic housing with metal head as well as the high degree of protection make the MGBS an all-rounder for almost every industrial use. The MGBS is suitable even for harsh, dirty environments.

Mounting and principle of operation

The MGBS-P-… consists of three components: a locking module, a handle module and an inner door handle. It is required for variants with escape release and is mounted on the inside. The locking module is mounted on the fixed part and the handle module on the movable part of the guard. For sliding doors, the handle module and the inner door handle additionally can be retrofitted with a door knob. The bolt tongue in the handle module is moved into and out of the locking module by actuating the door handle. When the guard is closed, the bolt tongue moves completely into the head of the locking module. The safety outputs are switched on if the integrated transponder chip is detected and the guard locking is activated. Depending on the version, guard locking is activated by spring force or solenoid force.

System family AP

In the AP version, the MGBS is suitable for use as an individual device for connection to all common safety evaluation units and safety control systems.

System family AR

In the AR version, up to 20 MGBS devices or other EUCHNER products that belong to the AR system family can be connected in series. 2 different wiring concepts are available:
  • Series connection in the control cabinet. The wiring is in the control cabinet. All information about the status of individual MGBS can be forwarded directly to the control system.
  • Series connection in the field: For field wiring EUCHNER offers the option of using M12 plugs and Y-distributors to connect together several MGBS.
Instead of the Y-plug connectors, it is also possible to use a passive distribution module. On this device, all safety and status signals are collected together in the field and forwarded to the control system using one cable.

Guard locking types

L1 closed-circuit current principle
  • Guard locking by spring force.
  • Release by applying voltage to the guard locking solenoid.

L2 open-circuit current principle
  • Guard locking by solenoid force.
  • Activation of guard locking by applying voltage to the guard locking solenoid.
